IMPD officer charged with domestic battery

Updated: 8:04 PM EDT July 26, 2021 INDIANAPOLIS An IMPD officer was arrested Monday on charges of domestic battery.  According to Metro Police, a charge of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old was filed against Ofc. James Cox by the Marion County Prosecutor s Office on Friday. Cox was notified of the charges and turned himself in on Monday. The charges stem from an IMPD Special Investigation Unit investigation that started last month. Officers were sent to a home in the 7600 block of Blue Willow Drive on the southeast side of Indianapolis the evening of June 16 after receiving a report alleging a possible assault.

His time will be served at the Indiana Department of Correction. A man has been convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Christopher Smith.  33-year-old Derek Oechsle shot and killed Smith at Jake s Pub, 1280 W. Southport Road, on the night of Nov. 29, 2019. Smith was with friends celebrating his bachelor party. © Provided by IMPD Derek Oechsle Witnesses said Oechsle was very upset and agitated, and would stare at other people, according to the affidavit.
