INDIANAPOLIS All “red flag” cases filed by Indianapolis police will now come before a judge after an Indiana prosecutor was criticized for declining to use the law to pursue court hearings that could have prevented a man from accessing the guns used to kill eight people at a FedEx facility last month.

Melvin Hall was found not guilty in the shooting that happened while he was working as a security guard at an east side apartment complex.
Jennifer says their decision wasn t an easy one. My heart was heavy and is still heavy to this day, she said.

Update: The Marion County Prosecutor s Office on Thursday, May 27, 2021 announced Derek Oechsle was sentenced to 55 years in prison. His time will be served at the Indiana Department of Correction.
A man has been convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Christopher Smith.
33-year-old Derek Oechsle shot and killed Smith at Jake s Pub, 1280 W. Southport Road, on the night of Nov. 29, 2019. Smith was with friends celebrating his bachelor party.
Oechsle was convicted of murder and criminal recklessness, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Thursday. A sentencing hearing for Oechsle will take place on May 20 at 2 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Thursday that Gamron Tedford has been convicted of murder in the 2018 shooting death of Jeshon Cameron on the far east side of Indianapolis.
Tedford was charged with shooting Cameron, who was 20 years old, several times from close range inside a car at a gas station in the 2900 block of Mitthoeffer Road on July 16, 2018.
A jury returned the guilty verdict Wednesday night after a three-day trial in Indianapolis.
