Marion County Sheriff s deputy who shot man in Broad Ripple identified

A volunteer reserve deputy of four years shot a 30-year-old man in Broad Ripple Saturday, according to the Marion County Sheriff s Office.  The Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday identified Lt. Jason Lee as the deputy involved in the shooting of William Manery. Lee joined the agency s Reserve Division in April 2017 and has donated  hundreds of hours of time annually to the sheriff s office, officials said.   IndyStar has requested his personnel file.  Manery was shot in his white Jeep Cherokee about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, after Marion County deputies were alerted to his location by Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee, where Manery had open warrants. 

Marion officials have 2 suspects in death of Melissa Marie Nease

The Marion County Sheriff s Office on Thursday said it knows of two suspects involved in the killing of a young mother last month. The agency released a short video clip that shows one of the people, and detectives ask that anyone who can identify the person contact them immediately. On Feb. 28, Melissa Marie Nease was found deceased in her residence at 68 Guava Pass Drive in Ocklawaha. Nease lived at the home with her three children, ages 2-10; their father; and his 11-year-old son. The man and four children were not at home when Nease was killed.  Authorities said the 29-year-old woman was shot. They previously had not described the manner of death, except to say it was a homicide.

Jan 1, 2021 DEPUTY OF THE YEAR 2020 The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that Deputy David “DJ” Barron was selected as 2020 Deputy of the Year. Deputy Barron attended the police academy and graduated on September 28, 2001. He began his career with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on October 26, 2001 as a Dispatcher. On September 15, 2003, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in the road patrol division where he currently serves. Deputy Barron had passion to be a K9 handler when he started and was able to achieve that goal. On May 5, 2009, Deputy Barron was assigned his first K9 partner Sig and they patrolled the streets and kept the community safe for years until he retired in January 8, 2018. Deputy Barron was able assigned a second K9 partner named Taz. Deputy Barron and Taz patrolled the street until Taz became ill and retired a few years later.
