While just a month or so ago, folks were scurrying to get hard-to-come-by vaccine appointments in the tri-county region, today slots are readily available. Currently, all three public health departments New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender are reporting appointments open. They have been all week, in fact.
Does that mean people are less interested in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine? Or that there is more supply?
Judging by state numbers alone, over the last five weeks, North Carolina was vaccinating over 400,000 people a week, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ dashboard. This week the number was down almost by half, at around 230,000 vaccinations.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved a plan to recreate a block of county-owned land in downtown Wilmington, capping years of back-and-forth between government stakeholders and a private development firm.
The agreement between New Hanover County and Zimmer Development Company will guide the establishment of a new library and museum, likely involving the razing of some current structures.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY Plans to demolish and reconstruct multiple county properties will be presented to the board of county commissioners March 15.
After years of evaluation and reconsideration, Project Grace is once again top of mind for New Hanover County officials. The name refers to a block of downtown land that houses the county-owned library and parking deck; the plan is to redevelop the site potentially the Cape Fear Museum as well in a public-private partnership.

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. A small community pharmacy in Hampstead is making sure it gets every last drop of the vaccine into people’s arms with the help of a waitlist.
Ten doses of vaccine come in one Moderna vial, according to Ashley Rogers, an advanced certified pharmacy technician at Village Pharmacy of Hampstead. Once thawed, the product is only “good” for six hours – but sometimes appointments end up as no-shows, leaving a chance for that valuable vaccine to go unused.
