Teen driver suspected of being under influence when crash killed 18-year-old passenger near Faribault

Copy shortlink: A teenage driver is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a predawn crash south of the Twin Cities that killed her passenger. Travis R. Van Houdt, 18, of Waterville, Minn., died at HCMC several hours after the wreck last Tuesday on W. 230th Street at Iona Avenue in Morristown Township, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner s Office. The crash occurred about 5:55 a.m. roughly 10 miles west of Faribault, where emergency responders located Van Houdt critically injured outside the car, according to the Rice County Sheriff s Office. The driver suffered minor injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where authorities collected a blood sample for testing. She was released to her parents. Results of the blood testing could lead to criminal charges, the Sheriff s Office said.

Manslaughter charges for woman who fell down stairs with baby

A Minneapolis woman was charged with manslaughter after she allegedly injured a child in a Brooklyn Center home and did not call 911 for assistance. Stephanie Walker, 39, was charged Dec. 22 with second degree manslaughter for causing the death of 13-week-old D’Juan Anderson through neglect or endangerment. According to the criminal complaint, Brooklyn Center Police Officers were dispatched Dec. 12 to a residence in the 6300 block of Orchard Avenue on a report of an unconscious baby. Arriving officers found a 2-month-old unconscious male, identified as Anderson by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, and began life saving measures before he was transported to the hospital. Doctors determined he had multiple skull fractures and brain swelling.

According to the criminal complaint: Beuch, 23, called 911 and told police dispatch that the victim, identified by law enforcement authorities as Casey Trutnau, also 23, of Jordan, attacked him with a knife, leading him to retaliate.
