Derek Chauvin said in court Thursday that he will not testify in his murder trial shortly before the defense said it has completed its case and the prosecution reiterated the same, setting the stage for closing arguments and deliberations Monday. I will invoke my Fifth Amendment privilege today to not risk making any self-incriminating statements in Hennepin County District Court, where the fired Minneapolis police officer is charged with killing George Floyd late last spring in Minneapolis.

One of the victims of a shooting in Minneapolis on Monday was a 15-year-old boy.
Jaden M. Blackmon was identified Wednesday by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner s Office, which says the 15-year-old died of a gunshot wound to the chest just after 2 a.m. April 12.
Blackmon was in a vehicle with 35-year-old Ahmed M. Badal, of Minneapolis, who was also fatally shot after a two-vehicle crash on South 14th Avenue at East 28th Street in south Minneapolis.
Derek Chauvin Won’t Testify At Murder Trial In George Floyd’s Death
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The defense at the murder trial of former Officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd wrapped up its case Thursday without putting Chauvin on the stand, presenting two days of testimony to the prosecution’s two weeks.
Chauvin informed the court that he would not testify, saying he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right not to take the stand.
“Is this your decision not to testify?” Judge Peter Cahill asked.
“It is, your honor,” Chauvin said.
Some prosecution rebuttal testimony was expected to follow Thursday. Closing arguments are set for Monday, after which the racially diverse jury will begin deliberating at the barbed-wire-ringed courthouse, with Minneapolis on edge against a repeat of the protests and violence that broke out last spring over Floyd’s death.
