BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) The pressure built Tuesday to fire the suburban Minneapolis police officer who killed a 20-year-old Black man during an altercation after a traffic stop, a shooting authorities said was a tragic mistake but that family members of Daunte Wright and others pointed to as yet the latest example of a broken criminal justice system.

MINNEAPOLIS (CN) A Hennepin County judge declined to acquit Derek Chauvin or to require George Floyd’s friend to testify on Wednesday morning, leaving Chauvin’s attorney to spend the remainder of the morning on direct examination of his first expert medical witness.

During her testimony, Hill told the jurors that Floyd was alert when she met him at Cup Foods. He also offered her to give a lift. However, after they entered the car, Hill got a call from her daughter while Floyd fell asleep. The woman said he tried to wake him up, but he again went to sleep.

Hill was called to testify on Tuesday, April 13, where defense attorney Eric Nelson tried to prove the point that Floyd had taken sleep-inducing opioids on the day of death. He is repeatedly trying to establish that the cause of death of the father-of-one is drug use and heart problems, not Chauvin allegedly kneeling on his neck for over nine minutes despite Floyd complaining that he canât breathe.
