A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty Monday to fatally shooting his girlfriend s ex-boyfriend last year in a western suburb.
Rodney Velho, 45, pleaded guilty in Hennepin County District Court to one count of intentional second-degree murder in the April 19 killing of Kevin Logan Jr.
He is scheduled to be sentenced May 10 and is expected to receive 20 years in prison, said the Hennepin County Attorney s Office.
According to the county attorney: Velho and his girlfriend were celebrating her birthday at her Maple Grove apartment when Logan stopped by about 6 p.m. to drop off the two children he had with the woman.

A Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to shooting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, who came to their house to drop off children for a visit.
Rodney Velho, 45, pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder Monday in Hennepin County District Court. Velho shot and killed Kevin Logan Jr., 31, on April 19, 2020.
According to the criminal complaint, Velho was celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday at her house at the 11800 block of 80th Avenue in Maple Grove.

The sentencing date for fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of murder in George Floyd’s death, has been pushed back a week, court records show.
The ex-cop’s sentencing hearing at the Hennepin County District Court was moved to June 25 because of a scheduling conflict, court officials confirmed Wednesday. The proceeding, originally scheduled for June 16, is set to be live-streamed.
Chauvin, 45, faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, though experts believe he would get significantly less time because of Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines suggest shorter prison terms for first-time offenders. The guidelines advise 12½ years for each murder count and four years for manslaughter.
