Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said on Tuesday that his state is not fully prepared for the threat of unrest ahead of the verdict in the case against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Walz declared a peacetime emergency in several counties across Minnesota but warned that they might not be enough to combat any potential violence as the verdict in Chauvin s case is expected to be announced this week. Local and state resources have been fully deployed, but they are inadequate to address the threat, Walz wrote in the executive order.

Minneapolis, MN – The jury deliberating in the murder trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin has reached a verdict and cities nationwide are scrambling to prepare for the aftermath.
The Hennepin County District Court announced that the verdict would be read between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Central time, CNN reported.
The jury deliberated for four hours on Monday evening after the attorneys finished closing arguments.
Minneapolis has been preparing for unrest for weeks and ginned up efforts after riots broke out in nearby Brooklyn Center after an officer-involved shooting on April 11.
