The pace at which Ireland s Covid-19 vaccination programme is rolled out is set to be ramped up from here on out , according to the HSE.
It comes as almost one third of the country s adult population has now received one dose of the inoculation.
As of Tuesday, 1,655,866 doses of the vaccine have been administered which includes 1,201,373 first doses and 454,493 second doses.
There is also increasing evidence that the chains of transmission of Covid-19 are being broken.
Ireland has one of the lowest coronavirus rates in the European Union, with only Portugal, Finland and Malta reporting rates lower than the rate of 127.51 cases per 100,000 people here.

THE HSE HAS written to hospitals reminding management that partners of pregnant women should expect to be present at 20-week scans unless there is a “documented risk” based on a Covid-19 or other outbreak.
In the letter from the HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer Dr Colm Henry, he outlines that all hospitals should ensure that they are “implementing the current national guidance” which would allow partners into scans.

Paul Reid said the HSE is on target to deliver between 160,000 and 180,000 vaccines this week
Ireland s health service is in a much stronger position today as the Government is set to announce an easing of restrictions for the coming months, Health Service Executive CEO Paul Reid has said.
He said lower transmission levels of the virus are impacting positively on the health system along with the vaccination programme.
Mr Reid said the HSE is on target to deliver between 160,000 and 180,000 vaccines this week and this is set to rise to between 220,000 and 240,000 vaccines next week.
He said the HSE expects to request those aged 50-59 to register for a vaccine appointment soon.
