A 50-year-old man from Newtown has been reported to be the latest COVID-19 death.
In his COVID-19 update this afternoon, Health and Medical Services Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong says the man is believed to have died at home and was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Valelevu Health Centre.
“He was reported to be in severe respiratory distress before death,” Dr Fong said.
“According to protocol, he was swabbed at the health centre, and tested positive. His death has been classified as a COVID-19 death by the doctors at the health centre.

Two doctors are the country’s latest COVID-19 patients.
They are 25-year-old female doctor and a 30-year-old male doctor who work at the Lautoka Hospital.
Both doctors have been entered into isolation and their close household contacts have been quarantined.

Fiji imposed a lockdown in two of its largest cities on Monday after the Pacific island nation recorded its first case of COVID-19 community transmission in months.
Health authorities said the case was a 53-year-old woman who was in close contact with a soldier who contracted coronavirus at a border quarantine facility.
