A world first veterans’ recovery program treats PTSD and substance use issues at same time 13 April

A new free treatment program that is the first of its kind in the world is aimed at reducing the impact of PostTraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) for veterans.
The pilot program, commencing on 3 May, is being offered free of charge to eligible former personnel of the Australian Army, Navy and Air Force.
The Veterans’ COPE Recovery Program, takes a new approach by treating both PTSD and SUD at the same time, rather than as separate issues.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) When the American Library Association recommended last March that all libraries in the United States close their doors to the public in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the national organization fully realized the gravity of its decision even as other businesses and nonprofits around the country were faced with the same difficult choice.
“It is very difficult for us to put forward this recommendation,” the ALA Executive Board said on March 17, 2020. “Libraries pride themselves on being there during critical times for our communities. We are often the only institutions to remain open during times of crisis. Service and stewardship to our communities are core to our profession.”
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of disability and a risk factor for early-onset dementia. The injury is characterized by a physical insult.
