Weeks after Metro Manila and nearby provinces were placed under the strictest level of quarantine classification, over 90% of the COVID-19 beds at the Philippine General Hospital remained occupied, PGH spokesman Jonas del Rosario said on Tuesday, May 4.
Del Rosario said In an interview with DZMM s Teleradyo that 234 out of the 250 dedicated beds for COVID-19 at the PGH are occupied. Unfortunately, the numbers have not changed yet in PGH – 234 out of the 250 beds are still occupied by COVID-19 patients so that s more than 90% occupancy, he said in a mix of English and Filipino.
EXCLUSIVE: Data obtained by Rappler shows hundreds of patients waiting days to weeks in emergency departments before being admitted. The Department of Health does not include such numbers in its public tracker.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Monday, April 12, said it will probe hospitals colluding with patients to declare minor respiratory symptoms such as asthma as COVID-19 to claim higher benefits.
The state health insurer issued the statement following reports on social media about upcasing or claiming for a related illness or procedure of higher severity or complexity to gain higher benefit payment. Upcasing is a form of health insurance fraud punishable with a fine of P200,000 for each count, or suspension of contract up to 3 years of the health care provider, or both, PhilHealth said.
