Second staff member at Pembroke Regional Hospital tests positive for COVID-19

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH). The announcement comes after a second member of the health care team has tested positive for the virus. This case is linked to the positive staff case identified on December 27th. The COVID-19 outbreak has been contained to the Emergency Department with no patients identified as high risk contacts . PRH President and CEO Pierre Noel wants to assure the community that the Pembroke Regional Hospital, and in particular, the Emergency Department, remains a safe place to come to for medical care due to safety measures they have in place.

Pembroke, Petawawa and Deep River will be included in the 28-day lockdown in Ontario. The news this afternoon from Premier Doug Ford includes shutting down non-essential businesses starting December 26th and extending the winter break for students in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. Acting Medical Officer of Health with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, Doctor Robert Cushman, says all outbreaks in our area can be traced to travel.

Over 30 COVID-19 cases in Whitewater Region resolved as outbreak situation improves

The COVID-19 outbreak in a small Mennonite community in Renfrew County is starting to improve. Acting Medical Officer of Health for the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), Doctor Robert Cushman says they are down from over 60 cases to 26 as of this afternoon (Monday, December 14th). Cushman says to date there has not been any COVID-19 cases connected to this outbreak outside of the tight-knit community. The acting medical officer of health with the RCDHU says the virus was brought into the community from out of town. Doctor Cushman says this is a perfect example of how the virus can spread and urges local residents to keep holiday celebrations to only those in your household.
