Both Georgia and South Carolina saw steady and lower numbers of new COVID-19 infections Monday and fewer deaths, including one in Augusta. Georgia added 725 new cases to reach 869,590 with 27 new deaths for 17,241, the Department of Public Health reported. Richmond County had 22 new cases for 19,616 total and was the only area county to see a double-digit increase. Other area counties saw four new cases or less: four in Columbia for 10,929, two in Burke for 1,756, one in McDuffie for 1,642, and one in Warren for 371. All other area counties were unchanged: Jefferson at 1,573, Screven at 808, Jenkins at 723, Wilkes at 668, Lincoln at 506, Glascock at 144 and Taliaferro at 100.

April 17: Georgia COVID cases climb to 1,185

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported1,185 new COVID-19 cases Saturday to bring the total to 866,978. The state reported 34 deathsfor a total of 17,214 since the pandemic began. Richmond County reporter 43 cases for 19,580 while Columbia County had 22 for 10,916. Burke County reported four for 1,754, McDuffie County  had two for 1,640 and Jefferson County had one for 1,573. All other area counties reported no new cases. There were no new deaths reported in the Augusta area. The death toll stands at 1,027. Doctors Hospital of Augusta dropped another in-house patient and has seven, according to spokesman Kaden Jacobs. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 641 new cases for 474,999 and 13 deaths to reach 8,208. Aiken County had 12 cases for 12,670 and Edgefield County had seven for 2,532. Neither had any additional deaths to remain at 176 and 28 respectively.
