CVS has administered almost 12,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine to residents and staff at Michigan nursing homes and a handful of other long-term care facilities, according to numbers released Wednesday morning by the pharmacy chain.
CVS is one of two pharmacies vaccinating residents and staff members of those types of facilities as part of the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program. It said it plans to vaccinate about 140,000 people in Michigan over the next 12 weeks. Walgreens, the other pharmacy contracted with the federal government to administer vaccines, has not released any data on the number of doses it has administered, how many it plans to administer or a timetable for doing so.

LANSING Skilled nursing home residents and staff have begun receiving the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine made by Moderna through the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is partnering with CVS and Walgreens through the program to manage and facilitate safe vaccination of this patient population, while reducing burden on long-term care facilities and local health departments.
“This is a great day for older Michiganders, their families and the dedicated men and women who care for them. We know this virus is a killer that preys on our most vulnerable populations, which is why my administration has prioritized testing in our nursing homes from the beginning. Now, we have developed a plan that will help us distribute a safe and effective

The state has begun distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to skilled nursing home facilities in Michigan.
“There has been a lot of excitement, good conversation,” says Traci Moore, MSN, RN Clinical Manager at Samaritas in Cadillac.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) started rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine this week through the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program. They partnered with CVS and Walgreens to help distribute the vaccine to care facilities.
“Our staff seems excited about it,” says Moore. “I think there’s definitely a sense of relief through the building, either way and hopefully this will be a step in the right direction to move us forward.”
ASHLAND â The first COVID-19 vaccines were administered in Ashland last week to first responders.
Ashland Pharmacy administered the vaccine to members of the Ashland fire and rescue departments as well as pharmacy staff on Dec. 23, according Staci Hubert, Ashland Pharmacy owner and pharmacist.
Hubert said the pharmacy was chosen to administer the vaccine in Ashland because they have been doing flu immunizations there for many years, and they are also doing COVID-19 testing. Three Rivers Public Health Department assigned Ashland Pharmacy to administer the vaccinations.
âWeâre happy to be able to be one of the first line pharmacies,â she added.
