(KSLA) - The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to lead a Drug Take Back Day. They are asking residents to discard unused prescription drugs at three drop-off locations on Saturday, April 24. The boxes are located at the Bi-State Justice Center, the Miller County Detention Center and the Texarkana Emergency Center. Drug drop-off in Texarkana Sgt. Rick Cockrell with TAPD said this is a way to keep illegal prescription drugs off the streets and provide a measure of safety for children.

This Saturday, the Take Back Day event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NorthTown Mall. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will be partnering to put on the event. According to a press release, at the last the Take Back Day in October 2020, the DEA collected close to 500 tons of unwanted, expired or unused drugs. They said over the ten years the program has been in place, more than 6,800 tons of drugs have been turned in.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is partnering with the Idaho Office of Drug Policy, Center for HOPE, Eastern Idaho Public Health, the Bonneville Youth Development Coalition, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Falls Police Department and St. Anthony Police Department for the 11th annual Drug Take-Back Day. The event will allow community members to safely and securely dispose of any unused or expired prescriptions and help prevent drug misuse in Idaho. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., you can drop off unwanted medication at the College of Eastern Idaho in Idaho Falls or Broulim’s at 301 Aspen Square Street in St. Anthony.
