It has been reported that over 12,000 businesses reopened their premises this week for the first time in months.  As more businesses open so does the amount of people commuting to work. The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment estimates around 100,000 people will return to work this month as the restrictions continue to reduce. With the country in Level 5 lockdown and spending opportunities hampered, pent up consumer demand has been unleashed. Retail Ireland estimates that Irish consumers will splash out more the €3bn in stores this month, expecting consumers to spend 40% more on debit and credit cards this month than in a normal year.

Explore the delights of ‘Summer in Longford’ Reporter: );   ); With the government announcing the further easing of Covid-19 restrictions last Thursday evening, people will be craving open air activities to enjoy and explore over the summer months. Longford Tourism recently launched their ‘Longford in Summer’ promotional short movie, the last in the four season series produced by Harp Media in Granard, which brings some of the county’s attractions to life. ‘Longford in Summer’ highlights the beautiful Richmond Harbour in Clondra. This is the terminus of the Royal Canal and where it meets the River Shannon. There is a lot happening in Clondra with the Royal Canal Greenway, the National Famine way, Midlands Cycle Hub which is a new cycling business recently opened.

Inis Cealtra plan animated by rich medieval characters May 3, 2021 EARLY medieval characters linked to Inis Cealtra will be given a new lease on life at the interpretive centre being developed in Mountshannon, to illuminate the role of the island as a pilgrimage destination and place of religious devotion. Consultants working on the Inis Cealtra project have been outlining what they believe are relatable themes and stories that will engage a wide variety of visitors with the history of the island. They have also promised that the exhibition space will promote the entire East Clare area. Earlier this month, Tandem Partners held a workshop on Zoom, which was attended by over 25 people including politicians, community leaders, tourism and hospitality providers.

Multi-award winning production crew, Peninsula Television visited the county from April 21 - 23 to film ‘Ireland: County by County’. The series will be aired coast to coast on American Cable TV this Summer and will feature on inbound Aer Lingus flights reaching a potential audience of 80 million as it is syndicated around the States. On Thursday last, the crew received a Norman welcome from Knights and Conquests General Manager Bartle D’Arcy and Tours and Education Officer Déirdre Orme.
