When Jayashree Thatte Bhat was growing up, she would often hear tales from her parents about the “fight for freedom” in Hyderabad.
Her mother and father, Vimal and Vasat, were academics who taught at the university and had involved themselves in the fight that erupted in the south-central state of India after the country gained independence from British rule in 1947.
