Thiruvalla: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church headquarters here on Thursday. The Congress leaders held talks with the church head Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan seeking support in the upcoming assembly polls.
On the other day, the two leaders had visited the Orthodox church headquarters.
Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church is a crucial group in Pathanamthitta district. During the local body polls, the church had differences of opinion with the UDF. A dispute had broken out over the representation in district panchayat.

When the BJP’s Vijay Yatra reached Chengannur in Alappuzha on Thursday, party State president K. Surendran reached out to the family of the Sabarimala tantri, which holds a special place among the Hindu upper castes in Central Kerala.
During the visit, Mr. Surendran held discussions with Kandararu Rajeevaru, the reigning tantri (chief priest) of the hill shrine and congratulated him for taking an upright stance during the Sabarimala protests.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gifted his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu replicas of two sets of relics from Kerala, regarded as key artifacts of the long Jewish history in India. They comprise two different sets of copper plates that are believed to have been inscribed in 9-10th Century, the Prime Minister s Office said. The first set of copper plates is a cherished relic for the Cochin Jews in India.
