MPS CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES REGISTER 50% PASS RATE

Malawi Prison Service (MPS) correctional facilities have registered a 50 percent past rate in the recently released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Examination results. MPS spokesperson Chimwemwe Shaba has confirmed the development saying 34 out of 68 inmates who sat for the 2020 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations have passed, representing a 50 percent pass rate. According to Shaba the highest inmate is from Mzuzu Prison who has scored 17 points. Shaba further said Zomba Central Prison has emerged overall performer out of the 19 correctional facilities after 10 out of 15 inmates passed the examinations. Meanwhile, in the just-released MSCE examination results, out of 138,310 students who sat for the examination, 57,293 passed representing 42 percent, a development that caused uproar amongst the stakeholder while questioning the standards of education in the country.

Child protection NGO wants govt to set supplementary exam for MSCE failures

A child protection NGO has advised the government to set supplementary examination for failures of this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE). Chisenga: prolonging the process to re-write the exams may lead to high levels of school dropouts, Eye of the Child willing Form 4 students who failed the examination this year should be allowed to sit for supplementary examinations in view of poor 2020 MSCE results. Out of 138,000 candidates who sat for the exams, only 57,293 passed translating into a pass rate of 41.42 %. The child rights organisation says it concerned with the period the learners would have to wait for the upcoming 2021 MSCE exams and results considering the challenges they already encountered in the 2020 exams.

Maneb extends registration period for 2021 as parents urge timey release of exams

March 11, 2021 Nyasa Times Reporter 2 Comments The Malawi National Examinations Board ( MANEB) has extended the  registration of candidates and payment of examination fees for 2021 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education ( PSLCE), Junior Certificate of Education( JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education( MSCE) examination to 8th April 2021. According to a MANEB statement, the extension is in response to the revised school calendar. Leadership of the Independent Schools Association of Malawi, (ISAMA) president, Joseph Patel, said the extension was a welcome idea. He ,however, said they are hopeful that examinations will be out before April 8th,2021. “Am hopeful that examinations  will be out as Maneb was finalising on marking. The extension is just okay over one month. The period will give time to parents to find examination fees. We thank the government for making the extension,” he said.
