On Thursday, May 27, Governor Polis and the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) announced that the national initiative known as Built for Zero has certified Fremont County, Colorado as the 12th community in the country to functionally end veteran homelessness.
“Ensuring those who have worked in service to this country have access to safe and secure housing is one of the most important things we can do, and I am pleased to see Fremont [County] leading the way in what we hope will become the new standard in our state,” said Governor Jared Polis. “We owe it to our veterans to ensure they too can build back stronger along with the rest of Colorado.”
Historic Harmony School building in Fort Collins sold to church
The nondenominational church has been leasing space on Whedbee Street from Mountain View Community Church. We ve outgrown that space and this is a unique opportunity to partner with the school in a historic building, lead pastor Vince Black said.
The 16,459-square-foot building currently houses Harmony School Christian Early Childhood Center, which will continue in its current space, Black said. The church will eventually renovate the gym that was added in 1997 as part of a full renovation.
Until then, the church will use the school s classroom space on the weekend. The first Sunday service there will be June 6, Black said.

When Jim Tate’s wife of 40 years passed away in March 2018, two of his daughters wasted no time in finding a resource to help their dad manage his grief.
Two days after Vicky Tate died of frontotemporal dementia and ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, Laura and Diana Tate had placed Jim Tate in GriefShare in Ramona.
“I think I learned a lot of things about grief and how to manage it,” said Tate, who has seven children and eight grandchildren. “It did help to talk to others having the same experiences.”
