This week, the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd began. I want to acknowledge that the trial may bring renewed pain and trauma for many, especially among Black people and people of color in our community. Hung Cam Tat, 34, is suspected of first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Farah Mahad, 35, is suspected of first-degree robbery. Deputies responded about 6:40 a.m. to reports of an armed robbery and gunfire in the parking lot of a Motel 6 on Northwest Frontage Road in Troutdale, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said a pedestrian was hit and killed by a MAX train Wednesday evening in Southeast Portland, temporarily disrupting service for some riders.  The collision happened near the MAX station at Southeast 12th Avenue and Clinton Street around 6:10 p.m. Service on the MAX orange line was disrupted for nearly two hours, according to TriMet. Shuttle buses transported passengers between Portland State University and Southeast 17th Avenue and Rhine Street during the disruption.

Pedestrian dies after being hit by MAX train in SE Portland Updated 9:04 PM; One person died Wednesday evening after a MAX train struck them on a track in Southeast Portland. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said the Orange Line train hit the person near the Southeast Clinton Street and Southeast 12th Avenue station about 6:50 p.m. TriMet spokesperson Roberta Altstadt said a portion of the Orange Line was closed amid an investigation and that shuttle buses were transporting passengers between Portland State University and Southeast 17th Avenue and Rhine Street. The train is still operating between the end of the line and Rhine Street and 17th Avenue, Altstadt said.
