Kyrgyz wrestler Meerim Jumanazarova becomes Asian wrestling champion for the first time
AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyz wrestler Meerim Jumanazarova won her first gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan on April 15.
She defeated athletes from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Korea and Mongolia four times in a row to become the new Asian champion in women s 68kg.
In 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek, Jumanazarova was third losing in the semifinals, and a year later in China, she lost again in the semifinals and won bronze again.
Apart from that, Jumanazarova is a three-time Asian junior champion.
At the awards ceremony when the Kyrgyz anthem was played she could not hold back her tears and cried.

Wrestling: Japan women s team to skip Asian championships due to virus
The Japan Wrestling Federation on Friday announced the withdrawal of the national women s team from the upcoming Asian championships in Kazakhstan after a member was suspected of being in close contact with someone infected with the coronavirus.
The women s team comprises wrestlers in five weight classes who have qualified for this summer s Tokyo Games, including 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic gold medalist Risako Kawai.

The April 13-18 Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty were scheduled to be the team s first competition in more than a year after the coronavirus pandemic halted the international wrestling calendar.

Boxscore: BOSTON (April 9, 2021) Uzbekistan Greco-Roman wrestler Mominjon Abdullaev has qualified for his third Olympics in the 130 kg weight category.
In a two-group round-robin format, Abdullaev dominated his competition winning his bouts by large margins until the finals defeating China s Linzi I in a closely competitive final.
Abdullaev won a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Wrestling Championships in the 96 kg division and competed in 120 kg category in the 2012 Summer Olympics being eliminated in the 1/8 finals by former World Champion, American Dremiel Byers. Abdullaev had a disappointing 15th place finish at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
