WHIZ News South Zanesville Traffic Stop Turns into Drug Bust The South Zanesville Police Department says a weekend traffic stop turned into a drug bust. Chief Mark Ross says patrol officer Dakota Mascher stopped a vehicle with fictitious license plates. The Chief says Mascher recovered over 240 grams of meth, 11 grams of cocaine and 35 grams of fentanyl. The officer also found a loaded firearm. The incident is under investigation with the assistance of the Muskingum County/Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit. Once the investigation is completed the incident will be taken to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office for charges. The name of the driver was not released.

One in custody for attempted murder in Bates Street shooting ZANESVILLE - A man found inside his home as police executed a search warrant during a shooting investigating has been charged.  The criminal complaint filed in Zanesville Municipal Court accuses Terrel McConnell of shooting Robert Gladden as he was walking inside his house on Bates Street, after taking his young children to school. McConnell is charged with one first-degree felony count of attempted murder, 22 second-degree felony counts of felonious assault, 22 second-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, 22 third-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm over a public roadway, one third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence and one third-degree felony count of having a weapon while under disability.

WHIZ News Home > Local News > Zanesville Man Sentenced to 70 Years in Prison for the Torture of Children Zanesville Man Sentenced to 70 Years in Prison for the Torture of Children The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office says a Zanesville man was sentenced Monday to at least 70 years in prison for the mental and physical abuse of children for nearly 6 months. 39-year-old Elijah Waltz went before Common Pleas Judge Mark Fleegle and was given a minimum of 70 years and a maximum of 75-and-a-half year sentence. Zanesville Police Detective Phil Michel says a 10-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy suffered starvation, torture, and abuse in their home at 948 Adair Avenue.
