Maryland police officers responding to a report of a parking hazard at a suburban mall came under gunfire Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Gaithersburg Police officers were sent to 392 N Summit Ave., the address of an apartment building near the Lakeforest Mall, around 3 p.m., according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Within moments, the officers reported at least one shot in their direction from higher elevation. Fox 5 DC reported that a significant police presence was visible at and around the nearby Lakeforest Mall. (WTTG)
Additional officers from both departments responded and were actively looking for one or more suspects.
Man Dies After Shooting in Boyds; Suspect Still at Large
Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in Boyds on Tuesday evening. Authorities do not believe this was a random incident.
Emergency dispatch received a call for the report of a shooting on the 12000 block of Ethel Rose Way shortly before 7:00 pm. Responding officers found 23-year-old Javon Jamal Gordon of Boyds lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.
According to an MCPD press release, residents tried to administer CPR to Gordon, and responding officers also continued to attempt lifesaving measures. Despite the lifesaving attempts, Gordon was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A woman died after a single vehicle crash on US-29 in Silver Spring Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lane of US-29 (Columbia Pike) at Briggs Chaney Road, according to Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). The woman was then taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
There were no other individuals involved in the crash.
Drivers on US-29 may continue to experience delays throughout the morning.
UPDATE: The road is open to traffic at this time.

SILVER SPRING, Md. A Montgomery County Public School administrator accused of doing nothing to protect the 5-year-old boy placed in handcuffs by police inside an elementary school has been placed on leave, according to two Montgomery County councilmembers.
The lawsuit filed by the 5-year-old boy’s mother directly names East Silver Spring Elementary School Assistant Principal Mrs. Pfeiffer as failing to protect the boy from officers who placed the boy in a police car, screamed in his face, and berated him inside the school.
