Feb 9, 2021 FONDA The Montgomery County Public Health will have a rabies clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb, 27 at the Montgomery County Department of Public Works garage, 6 Park St., according to a news release. The New York State Public Health Law requires that all dogs, cats and domestic ferrets will have initial vaccinations administered against rabies no later than 4 months of age and stay up to date with re-vaccinations. The re-vaccinations are required one year later and a booster shot every three years. It is important to have pets vaccinated in a timely manner in order for the pet to be considered protected against the virus. The pet owners should bring proof of their pet’s last rabies vaccination.

bohara@leaderherald.com FONDA Weekly COVID-19 numbers in Montgomery County are continuing in a downward trend, however the county continues to hit roadblocks with distribution of the vaccine. Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort said during the COVID-19 briefing on Monday that there were 237 new positive cases in the county this week which is 19 less than last week which was at 258 positive cases and the week prior the county saw 276 positive cases. “We are seeing a downward trend in the weekly numbers, similar to what we’re seeing in the region,” Ossenfort said. “Those trends, metrics are headed in the right direction.”

bohara@leaderherald.com FONDA After several weeks of Montgomery County seeing a sharp incline in the number of residents testing positive with COVID-19, those numbers are starting to decline, according to local representatives. During the weekly COVID-19 briefing, Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort said there were 248 positive cases this week, which is 28 less than what the county saw last week. Last week the county had 276 positive cases and the week prior, the county had 392 positive cases. Ossenfort also said the number of patients at St. Mary’s Hospital is also easing. “It appears that we’re coming down off that holiday rush,” Ossenfort said. “Obviously 248 cases in a week is still a lot, but at least it appears that we’re heading in the right direction.”
