The medical center immunized about 30 high-risk frontline health care workers Monday morning.
One of them was Dr. Meghana Moodabagil, a resident physician in emergency and internal medicine. Moodabagil knew she d get the first dose of the two-shot vaccine Monday but she didn t know walking into work that she d be one of the very first in Ohio and the nation. This is so cool. This is like history in its making right now. I don t have words, it s just so cool, she said. I want all my colleagues to be able to do what I m doing right now.
Moodabagil was seated at one of several tables set up in rows inside Ohio State s Biomedical Research Tower on 12th Avenue. Around 10:45 a.m., six people were vaccinated all at once following a celebratory countdown of 3-2-1 by health workers.

WASHINGTON Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Surgeon General Jerome Adams were on hand Monday at George Washington University Hospital to witness doctors and nurses get the first shots of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Five health care workers received initial doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, the first authorized in the country to combat COVID-19.
Azar called it a momentous event to develop a vaccine just over 11 months after the novel coronavirus first surfaced but said important work remains to protect Americans.

Premier Andrew Furey and Health Minister John Haggie, wearing masks and matching safety jackets, stood on the tarmac and watched as a container containing 1,950 doses touched down in the province.

Ohio should receive 420,000 COVID-19 vaccines by Christmas, Gov. Mike DeWine said during a Tuesday news conference.
That includes 130,000 additional doses from Pfizer and an expected 123,000 from Moderna next week, DeWine said. We will continue to get vaccines the rest of the month, he said.
Local health departments, he added, should start receiving vaccines next week.
The Pfizer vaccine is the only one to so far receive emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration. The vaccine from Massachusetts-based Moderna is expected to be approved in the coming days as well.
As the first coronavirus vaccines arrived at OhioHealth s Riverside Methodist Hospital on Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted made a plea for health care workers and the public to get the shot as it becomes available.
