Training underway at MMA, UMD, BCC for offshore wind industry jobs

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates 43,000 new jobs will be created in the offshore wind market by 2030. The East Coast, and particularly, the Northeast, is poised to benefit from this growing industry. The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center has published an assessment of jobs and economic impacts associated with the development of 1,600 megawatts in Massachusetts. That study estimated that over the next decade, offshore wind farms will create 2,000 to 3,000 jobs and generate economic impacts between $1 to 2 billion throughout the region. Companies are making progress to make offshore wind a true reality as a vital power source for our area.

One Person Hurt In Boat Crash

1 person injured in watercraft collision in Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY One person was injured after they fell off a personal watercraft following a collision Thursday afternoon, according to a press release from the Bourne Fire Department.  At 1 p.m., the Bourne Fire Department crews were dispatched to Taylor’s Point Marina,  where they determined there was a collision between two personal watercraft near the docked Massachusetts Maritime Academy training ship, TS Kennedy.  Fire personnel out of the Pocasset station responded in one of the department’s marine units to ensure that no one else who might be injured remained in the water, the release said.  One person was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, the release said.
