UMass Memorial Health Care is temporarily stopping new appointments for COVID-19 vaccines for patients because of a dose shortage, with the announcement to staff on Friday coming less than a week after the Worcester hospital system opened a patient vaccine center at the Mercantile Center.
Dr. Eric Dickson, UMass Memorial s president and CEO, said in a staff advisory it won t be booking any new appointments at any patient vaccine clinics for two to three weeks. The decision came after talks with state officials and leaders of other health care systems in Massachusetts, he said, with Gov. Charlie Baker giving priority to patients who have already booked appointments.

New Bedford, Dartmouth and Fairhaven Public Schools all advise families to stay safe during the week of Feb. 15 vacation. They have sent out letters to parents reminding everyone that the state travel order is still in effect. The order requires that any individual, whether visiting or a returning resident, must quarantine for 10 days upon reentering the state or must produce a negative COVID-19 test result administered on a sample taken not longer than 72 hours before arriving. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recommends keeping gatherings to a minimum and limiting them to members of the same household or those with whom you are regularly in contact.

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 2,228 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state s total number of confirmed cases to 525,486.
The state DPH also reported another 87 deaths among COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts, upping the state s confirmed coronavirus death toll to 15,051. There have also been 307 deaths reported among probable cases of the virus in the state.
The state s rate of positive COVID-19 tests has declined from around 8.7 percent at the start of the year to 2.5 percent on February 12th.
The estimated number of active cases of the virus in Massachusetts, signifying the number of patients with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 21 days, has dropped to 48,280.
