Lexington campers play on despite pandemic and record July rain

Wicked Local The ongoing pandemic and one of the wettest Julys on record in Massachusetts hasn’t stopped or slowed down Lexington from providing kids and families with much needed and wanted summer fun. Lexington Recreation and Community Programs held an abbreviated four-week, half-day camp in 2020. This summer, it has continued in the great outdoors with more offerings, similar to life in 2019 before the pandemic. “It’s been a really positive summer so far,” said Peter Coleman, assistant director of recreation at Lexington Recreation and Community Programs. Their LexRec S.O.A.R. (Summer Outdoor Arts & Recreation) day camp and sport-specific camps for kids ages 4 to 15 – including youth tennis lessons and clinics, therapeutic recreation, Minuteman Sports Clinics run by physical education teachers and Lexington Public School coaches and other youth programs – started June 28 and run through the end of August. Campers go anywhere from one week to the full eight weeks

Cape Cod and Islands: 47 new COVID-19 cases, Provincetown: 882 cases

Since the pandemic began, the state has had 671,644 confirmed COVID-19 cases.  Two new deaths caused by COVID-19 were reported in Barnstable County over the course of the last two weeks. There were no new deaths reported in Dukes (Martha s Vineyard) and Nantucket counties last week.   Barnstable County had 31 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus Thursday for a total of 14,473 since last March.   Dukes County had no new cases Thursday for a total of 1,437. Nantucket County saw 16 new cases over the past week and has had a total of 1,565 coronavirus cases.  The state Department of Public Health said that 176 people in Massachusetts were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 39 patients in intensive care units, 17 of whom were intubated.
