Temporary Overnight Closures on Route 2 near Exit 79 (Old Exit 19) Staff Report Modified: 5/10/2021 8:09:53 AM ATHOL/PHILLIPSTON The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing overnight lane closures on Route 2 westbound near exit 79 (old exit 19) in Athol/Phillipston. Lane closures will occur from 7 p.m. on Monday, May 10, through 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11. These overnight closures are due to facilitate milling operations for the Route 2 Resurfacing Project. During the work, drivers traveling on Route 2 westbound will be directed to exit Route 2 at exit 79 (old exit 19) onto Route 2A. Drivers will rejoin Route 2 at exit 77 (old exit 18). Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency.

I-90 bridge repair operations scheduled for next week Work will take place on I-90 in Otis, Becket, and Lee from Monday, May 10–Friday, May 14 from 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. OTIS, BECKET, LEE  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) today announced that crews will be conducting daytime bridge repair operations at various locations and times on Interstate 90, eastbound and westbound, in Otis, Becket, and Lee. The work will take place from Monday, May 10–Friday, May 14 during daytime hours, from 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The work will require temporary intermittent lane closures. The location and schedule for the bridge repair operations will be as follows.

New Road Bridge To Reopen Friday

  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced Thursday that the newly reconstructed New Road Bridge located over the West Branch of the Housatonic River will be reopened to traffic in the late afternoon on Friday, May 7.    The bridge was closed on Feb. 26, 2020, to allow crews to replace the existing bridge and upgrade existing utilities.   The cost of the bridge rehabilitation project is $1,734,102. The contractor for the project is JH Maxymillian.     The new 67-foot single-span precast, prestressed concrete NEXT, or Northeast Extreme Tee, beam superstructure will be supported by a cast-in-place reinforced concrete abutments. The new bridge will also be wider with a 28-foot roadway width providing two 10-foot-wide traffic lanes and two 4-foot-wide shoulders that will also accommodate pedestrians.

Grant to bring ADA-compliant changes to the downtown Winchendon area

WINCHENDON Residents can expect to see some big changes all across the downtown Toy Town area. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) recently announced the next recipients of the next round of funding from the Baker-Polito administration’s Shared Winter Streets and Spaces Program, which includes Winchendon. The town will receive $243,600 to create a safe, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant walking route connecting Murdock High School, Memorial Elementary School, Broadview Assisted Living Center and key bus stops to the downtown commercial district to include high-visibility crosswalks, safety beacons and new ADA-compliant ramps. “We’ve got a lot of sidewalks that are not ADA-compliant,” said Land Use/Planning Clerk Nicole Roberts. “What this grant is helping us do is to connect the area of sidewalks on north Central Street to the downtown area. It will also create safe passage for students who go up to Murdock and the (Memorial School).”
