Nauset school vote involves 2 ballots, 2 questions and $132 million

As they face a special election this month, Nauset school district voters have questions. They have shared their confusion about the upcoming vote on the Nauset Regional High School building proposal on social media and with the Cape Cod Times. Questions focus on the mail-in voting procedures, and what the debt-exclusion language on the funding question actually means. Eastham Town Clerk Cindy Nicholson said her office is usually inundated with questions when elections are imminent. But in this case  while the district has held information sessions, and town select boards and finance committees have weighed in voters don’t have the same opportunity to ask about and discuss issues as they do when Town Meetings are held.

Lawsuit aims to stop Doherty HS project, return site to parkland

WORCESTER A group of residents opposed to the planned construction of a new Doherty High School on Highland Street has filed a lawsuit against the city in Superior Court to try to stop the project. The 13 plaintiffs, some of whom are affiliated with the Save Newton Hill campaign, argue the existing high school at the site never should have been allowed to be built, since the city’s initial taking of the land in the late 19th century expressly restricted it to use as a park. The complaint asks the court to prohibit the new high school from being built at the location, and for the 20-acre site to be returned to parkland once the current school is demolished. In addition, it demands $250,000 from the city be given to the Friends of Newton Hill organization for the future preservation of the park.
