Major General Nick Welch The major general was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for fraudulently claiming £48,000 000 in allowances to pay for his children’s boarding school fees. The Major General previously claimed that his roles in Andover and London made it more difficult to comply with the “mess” of military rules. Mr Welch is understood to be the most senior officer to face court martial since 1815.

A case of assault was dimissed at Haverfordwest Magistrates on Wednesday, April 7, for lack of evidence Assault charges against a man from Haverfordwest were dismissed at the town’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 7. A charge of attacking a woman between Monday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 17 against 53-year-old Rennie Dean Edwards of Slade Park, Haverfordwest, was dismissed after no evidence was presented to the court. He had originally denied the charge. Edwards is still facing one charge of assault committed between Sunday, February 14 and Tuesday, February 16 in Haverfordwest.

KAMPALA, April 8 (Xinhua) A court in the Ugandan capital Kampala has jailed two people including a police officer for 12 years over illegal possession of ivory.
Bashir Hangi, spokesperson of Uganda Wildlife Authority, a state-run conservation agency, told Xinhua by telephone on Thursday that the two pleaded guilty for being in possession of two elephant tusks, which weigh about 45 kilograms.
They appeared before a Special Utilities Court at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Court on Wednesday. When they appeared in court, they pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to 12 years in jail or a fine of eight million Uganda shilling (about 2,200 U.S. dollars) each for being in possession of protected species unlawfully, said Hangi.
