POS man ordered to stay away from family

A Port-of-Spain man has been ordered to stay away from his family and neighbours following a domestic incident which occurred on January 24th. Sherwin Bute, also known as ‘Ziggy,’ was given the order to stay away from the residence of the alleged victims by Deputy Chief Magistrate, Cherril-Anne Antoine, as part of his bail conditions, after appearing virtually before her at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on January 29th. He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of cruelty to a child. Bute was granted bail for $80,000. He will reappear before the court again on February 26th.

63-year-old man arrested for defiling two-year-old Adeyinka Adedipe and Abiodun Nejo A 63-year-old man, Sunday Igbinokhuaihe, has been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl. The incident happened in Urhonigbe, in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was said to be a neighbour of the victim’s parents. Igbinokhuaihe was alleged to have lured the girl into his room with a loaf of bread, after which he inserted his finger into her private parts while the girl’s mother was preparing dinner in the kitchen. PUNCH Metro gathered that the mother noticed that something was amiss when her daughter screamed while she was bathing her later in the evening.

Ekiti court remands man, 29, for raping 50-year-old woman Abiodun Nejo, Ado Ekiti An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Olaleye Jimoh, at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly raping a 50-year-old woman. The defendant is standing trial in the court on a count charge of raping. Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court on Thursday that the defendant, who was suspected to have raped the 50-year-old woman, was arrested on January 24, 2021, at Odo-Owa Ekiti within Ikole Ekiti Magistrate District on or about January 22, 2021. Akinwale said, “The offence is punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State 2012.”

Ms Masitula Namulondo, the chief magistrate, last week, said the grounds raised by the applicant were insufficient. “The matters raised in this application against the first and second respondent seeking a vote recount are insufficient and the application is hereby dismissed,” Ms Namulondo said.  Mr Kamba, who polled 3,411 votes against Mr Macho’s 3,507, had filed a petition seeking for a vote recount, claiming that the record from which the second respondent (Electoral Commission) was premised to announce Mr Macho was a forgery.

January 20, 2021 Owen Khamula - Nyasa Times 4 Comments A court in Lilongwe has fined 15 bar owners K20 000 each for failure to close their pubs at 8pm gazetted time. ‘This selfish, careless behaviour must stop!” The Lilongwe Senior  Resident  Magistrate Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced the bar owners to pay  the fine or in default serve one month imprisonment with hard labour for contravening Covid -19 regulations which is contrary to section 20(2)(a) of the Malawi Public Health Act. State prosecutors Humphreys Makhalila and Jimmy Kampira told the court that the convicts on January 16, 2021 were found operating  night clubs beyond the time limit set by Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 prevention measures.
