Madison County Transit s board members are appointed, in part, by the Madison County Board.
One of the Madison County Board Members, Michael Walters, is also the recipient of a contract from Madison County Transit, whose board members are appointed, in part, by the County Board that Walters sits as a member of. Since May of 2019, that contract has been worth more than $75,000 to Walters as a
State Legislative Consulting Service for Madison County Transit. He currently receives $5,000 per month after receiving a $2,000 per month increase in pay within a year of the appointment of a fellow board member to the transit board.
May is National Bike Month, and Madison County Transit is celebrating with a series of activities on their 135-mile-long MCT trail system.

EDWARDSVILLE The expansion of the Southwestern Enterprise Zone, settlement of several longstanding legal issues, and appointments delayed after Madison County Board members demanded a new county administrator are all set to be discussed and possibly acted on at Wednesday’s board meeting.
The meeting will be held in person at 5 p.m. in the County Board Room.
One of the items on the agenda is the approval of an ordinance expanding the Southwestern Enterprise Zone to include additional parts of Granite City and Venice.

Madison County Transit’s (MCT) Summer Youth Pass Program has been a big hit for 12 years and will return for the summer of 2021. K-through-12-students can ride MCT buses for free all summer long for transportation to summer jobs, summer school, sporting events, parks, pools and more.
MCT Marketing Coordinator Ellie Carrow tells the Big Z they’ve already distributed 8,500 passes to area schools.

The Summer Youth Pass Program has been creating vital transportation for young people since 2008. MCT also maintains more than 135 miles of scenic biking and walking/running trails throughout Madison County.

BELLEVILLE A woman with a seeing eye dog claims she was severely injured while riding a Madison County Transit bus when it collided with a tractor trailer.
Kimberly Hallows filed a complaint April 28 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Madison County Transit, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Hallows and her seeing eye dog were passengers on a Madison County Transit bus on Nov. 2, 2019. She claims that as the bus traveled on I-55 near the intersection of Mile Post 3 in East St. Louis County, the driver failed to stop or yield the right of way and caused the bus to collide with a tractor trailer.
