Victims in fatal Madison house fire identified

Capt. Michael Sedlacek said Gregory Sanders, 64, died in the two-story structure fire that took place at 106 Cottonport Place around 11:30 p.m. The cause of death was smoke inhalation, according to the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
Madison Police Investigators have concluded that “no criminal elements were present” in relation to the fire or the cause of death, Sedlacek said.
A woman, Suzanne Sanders, 56, was rescued from the house as firefighters tackled the blaze. She is still in serious condition in the burn unit at UAB.
It took fire investigators about 90 minutes to get the fire under control. At this time, Madison Fire & Police investigators have ruled the fire cause to be accidental.
