GSEU hosts Anti-Racism Week of Action
The weeklong virtual event follows racist incident involving a student, TA, last month
May 13, 2021
The Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU) has invited students to Anti-Racism Week of Action, an event that demands Binghamton University take action against the promoted culture of racism and white supremacy on campus.
The weeklong series will be hosted from May 10 to 14, where students can participate in scheduled virtual events and tasks divided among the five days. The tasks consist of scripted emails, call-ins and daily social media posts addressed to BU administrators demanding change and recognition within the University. There will also be virtual teach-ins by members of the community where students and instructors can further discuss inequalities.
Editorial: Stop the blame game
The University administration, faculty need to protect its students against racism on campus by taking action, not pointing fingers

On Feb. 27, Binghamton University (BU) students received a B-Line News Addition from administrators condemning “racist incidents” on campus. With little to no detail as to what these racist incidents entailed, Pipe Dream worked with both students and professors to establish contact with those affected in order to publish a news column. On March 15, prior to writing our articles, Pipe Dream staff got in contact with Joshua Price, professor and chair of the sociology department, to discuss racist and sexist slurs voiced against one of the teaching assistants (TA) for his course. The TA, an African American woman, did not respond to our request for comment, and we intend to continue to respect her right to anonymity.

Rose Osborne first heard about SUNY-ESF’s plan to reopen its campus for the fall semester in early August.
As a business agent at large for the Graduate Student Employees Union, a collective of graduate students across New York state, Osborne expected to work with administrators as they planned to reopen. At one of the other colleges that she represents, officials presented her with a draft of their restart plan so she could examine it and gauge how graduate students felt.
