The SFI also criticized the Assam government for not taking any positive step to start vaccination for those in the 18-45 age group from May 1 even as the Centre gave the nod to give 18+ the jab from Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Abhimanyu, a class 10 student, and a resident of Padayanivettom. Two others were injured during the attack, and are currently being treated at a local hospital. The incident has created ripples in the state with CPI(M) and Left parties describing it as a “political murder” and calling it a handiwork of BJP-RSS. However, police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder and said the investigation is underway. No arrests have been made so far.

Abhimanyu, the Class X student, was stabbed to death during an altercation between two groups on Wednesday night. As per the CPI(M), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was behind the murder of Abhimanyu, who was reportedly a Students Federation of India (SFI) activist. “It was a clear political murder,” said CPI(M) Alappuzha district secretary R Nazar.
