AMES, Iowa Jamie Sampson’s childhood love of computer games like SuperTux, Zoombinis and JumpStart has grown into a career. Sampson, an Iowa State University senior in software engineering from Springfield, Missouri, graduates this weekend. “I had a lot of early experiences with gaming, but I didn’t know at the time that it was something I was going to pursue as a career,” she said. “I didn’t know that was even an option until I got older and learned more about the industry.”

Iowa State University students to compete in singing contest

Judges selected 14 vocalists to move on to the final competition. “It really gives us a chance to showcase some of our talented Iowa State students,” Brockpahler said. “They come from all majors and all walks of life, so that’s neat to see. “They all bring different songs and different levels of musicianship to their performances.” This year’s Cyclone Voice will be hosted by pop/hip-hop musician Gnash. “Gnash is a great musician; he’s a producer and a writer,” Brockpahler said. “He’s definitely connected to the music industry on much more than the performing side, so I think that’s a really neat opportunity for our singers to be able to meet and work with him as he hosts the show.”

Nick Kroll virtually visits UConn with SUBOG Q&A

Actor, comedian and producer Nick Kroll had students in stitches last Thursday night during a Q&A session hosted by the Student Union Board of Governors where he revealed that his favorite go-to joke is about wetting his pants. The creator of “Big Mouth,” “Oh Hello” and “Kroll Show” chatted with the University of Connecticut through a livestream hosted by Comedy Chair Catherine Casey. Kroll talked about the characters he plays on Big Mouth, the various comedy projects he’s worked on and what it was like becoming a father during the pandemic. “A lot of the appointments, I had to be on FaceTime in the car while [my wife] was in the appointment, and that stuff’s super weird,” he said. “Is that funny? Is this a funny story to talk about?”
