The Management of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has disclosed that a story insinuating the death of two female students, as a result of a fire incident at the Block ‘M’ female hostel, at its main campus, as fake news.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Lawal Bilbis, while reacting to the development, however, expressed happiness that no life was lost as a result of the incident.
The block ‘M’ Down Valley hostel, was gutted by fire in the early hours of Monday, February 1, 2021, resulting in the destruction of multi-million naira properties, credentials, cash and other valuables of no fewer than sixty-eight female students.
The National President, National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), Comrade Sunday Dayo Asefon recently, led members of the national and state executives of the body to the acting Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Oyedamola Oke, on a dual mission to congratulate him on his appointment and present some demands on behalf of the students union to him.
Professor Oke was joined by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Wahab Elias, Dean, Students Affairs, Dr. Tajudeen Olumoko and Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Wale Anthony, to receive the delegation.
In his remarks, Asefon said the visit was a cordial one, aimed at felicitating with the acting Vice Chancellor and appreciate the institution’s management formerly led by the immediate past VC, Professor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, for building and sustaining a strong relationship with the students’ union of the university.

Hundreds of freshers, some accompanied by their parents, yesterday besieged the residential halls of the University of Ghana to go through the residential formalities as the university opened its gates to them.
At the Akuafo Hall, Mensah Sabbah Hall, Legon Hall and the Porter Hall, the situation was not different, as parents engaged in arguments and sometimes confrontation with the officials attending to the students.
