COVID-19 scare: UNILAG shuts down staff club

Following the death of two former professors who worked in the university that was linked to the COVID-19 disease, the authorities of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, have shut up down the staff club in its main campus in Akoka, Lagos.
The directive to shut down the club was given by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe on Thursday to the Registrar who issued a memo to that effect.
Confirming the development to Saturday Vanguard, the Head of the Media Unit of the university, Mrs Olufadeke Akinleye, said the development was a precautionary measure.
Penn State announced a change to the fraternity and sorority recruitment eligibility requirements for the spring 2021 semester on Friday.
The new standard allows students to participate even if they have previous conduct violations and sanctions, which vary from the previous standard stating students were ineligible if they have active conduct violations or sanctions.
With the new requirements, students will be ineligible if they have an active Conduct Probation with a Transcript Notation, which is one step below suspension, at the time of recruitment.
Along with not having a Conduct Probation, students interested in participating must be enrolled as a full-time student; not be suspended at the time of recruitment; have a 2.50 cumulative GPA and at least 14 credit hours at Penn State; and participate in an online information session under the Penn State s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Some workers at the Lagos State University have petitioned Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to protest against the recommendation by the institution s vice-chancellor selection committee, pointing out that a man without a PhD cannot confer PhD degrees on students.
In the petition, the workers under the banner of Concerned Staff of LASU urged Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is the visitor to the university, to reject the recommendation.
They alleged that the joint council and senate selection committee acted in flagrant violation of the advertisement for the vice-chancellor position by shortlisting Olumuyiwa Odusanya, Kabir Akinyemi and Senapon Bakre.
PU officials transferred over fake degrees issue

LAHORE:In the wake of recent LLB fake degree scam and subsequent verification of the fake degrees, Punjab University on Thursday transferred a number of officials from its examination department. Assistant Controller Parshant Singh, who was suspended along with other officials and facing inquiry under PEEDA Act, has been replaced by Faheem Aizaz, Assistant Registrar, VC Office. Muhammad Saleem Akhtar, Assistant Registrar, Directorate of Students Affairs has been transferred and posted as Assistant Registrar, VC Office, in place of Faheem Aizaz. Muhammad Javed, Deputy Controller Exams Department has been transferred and posted as Deputy Director Students Affairs while Hafiz Abdul Qayyum, Deputy Registrar, VC Office, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Director Students Affairs.
