Workers escape unhurt as massive fire breaks out at BSL plant, prodn hit | Ranchi News

(Representative image) BOKARO: A massive fire broke out in the Blast Furnace-2 of the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Friday. The fire erupted after a torpedo ladle carrying hot metal was punctured. Hot metal of 1300°C temperature leaked out of the torpedo and a fire started at the spot. The flames rose so high that they engulfed the entire torpedo. BSL is a unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). About half a dozen fire tenders took about two hours to douse the flames. Senior officials of the BSL plant reached the spot. Fortunately, no casualty has been reported. The incident took place when the loco was ferrying a hot metal-laden torpedo to the Steel Melting Shop (SMS).

Bokaro: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai has raised concerns over the condition of pollution in Damodar river, accusing Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) of callously discharging its effluents into the waterbody posing health hazards to local population dependent on the river, considered as one of the lifelines in this part of the state. On Monday, he met with Union minister of steel RCP Singh in Delhi to draw his attention and demand action against BSL. Rai, who is the president of Damodar Bachao Andolan, also showed photographs of the current condition of river to the minister. The pictures depicted how the colour of the water has turned red. He also showed pictures of the discharge of effluents through BSL’s canal flowing into the river.

As demand drops, BSL curtails O2 supply to 11 states | Ranchi News

Bokaro: As Covid-19 cases have reduced considerably throughout the country and the demand for oxygen has gone down, the Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) has curtailed its supply of liquid medical oxygen to 11 states. BSL’s chief of communication Manikant Dhan said, “BSL had supplied 7,375 MT of liquid medical oxygen to 11 states when the second wave of the pandemic was at its peak in May. But now the demand has gone down and last month, BSL had to supply only 601MT of oxygen to three states Bihar (105 MT), Uttar Pradesh (210 MT) and Madhya Pradesh (80 MT).” Upon directives of the Union ministry of steel, all the five units of Steel Authority of India Limited had diverted their liquid oxygen for medical use. BSL had to supply oxygen to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
