Canby, Molalla projects receive county grants Amplify Wait Park, Historic Molalla Log House both recipients of Clackamas County Cultural Coalition grants. The Clackamas County Cultural Coalition awarded $39,000 in grants to 17 arts and culture organizations through its Project Grant program, including some projects in Canby and Molalla. In all, $58,398 was requested by county grant applicants. The grant program s purpose is to locally distribute private funds contributed to the Oregon Cultural Trust in support of goals and funding priorities outlined in the Clackamas County Plan for Arts, Heritage and Humanities. This year marks the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition s 17th cycle of giving.

Leaders in Oregon s Muslim community have rejected an embattled Clackamas County Commissioner s plans for outreach and apologies saying his hate speech requires an immediate resignation. Newly-elected Commissioner Mark Shull referred to Muslim Americans as invaders and savages as recently as mid-2019 in his Facebook posts and called for military force against them, including extermination outside the lands of Islam. And while the former lieutenant colonel told The Oregonian he plans to meet with Muslim leaders to build understanding, the most prominent officials in that community say they haven t heard from him.

Olsen cited family concerns as the reason for his resignation and will be moving to Indiana to be closer to relatives. His resignation was effective Jan. 10, one day before the start of organizational days for the 2021 legislative session. Now, the Oregon Republican Party will hold a convention via Zoom at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, to begin the process of finding someone to fill the remaining two years of Olsen s term.

January 19 2021 School board vote makes it official; students can attend classes five days a week beginning Jan. 26 Crook County School District made it official last week – all students will be allowed to attend school full time when the second semester begins. Grades K-3 have attended school full time since the beginning of the school year in early September. Grades 4 and 5 joined them in early October, at the same time that Crook County Middle School and High School allowed students to attend classes two days a week in alternating cohorts. Jan. 26 will be the first time in 10 months that all public-school students will be allowed to go to school five days a week, and district leaders are thrilled.
