Covid cases may peak in Karnataka by May first week: State Health Minister

Amid a spike in coronavirus cases in the state, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Sunday said that the experts have warned of peak in infections by the first week of May. The Minister also said experts have been asked to submit a report, based on which the government would take appropriate measures in the days to come. According to experts any wave will be there for 80 to 120 days, we have to be careful till May end, as this is just the beginning, Sudhakar said. Speaking to reporters after meeting with the technical advisory committee (TAC) and expert committee on COVID-19 constituted by the government, he said the infections may peak during the next two to three weeks by May first week and decline by the end of that month.

Puducherry Assembly elections: Heavy security deployed, security tightened

Puducherry and its outlying regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam goes to Assembly polls on Tuesday in a single phase. A total of 10,04,507 electors will exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 324 candidates in fray across 30 Assembly segments including five reserved constituencies. Of the 33 Assembly seats, three are nominated. Security arrangements are being closely being monitored. The Election Commission announced that one all-women polling station to be set up in each Assembly constituency. The DEO, #Puducherry inspecting the Model Polling Station at the Petit Seminaire School, Moolakulam. Overall, there are 30 Model Polling Stations, 1 in each Constituency, and 28 All-Women Polling Stations for #PuducherryElections2021, tweeted the Election Commission of India.

Will discuss possibility of curbs with CM: Goa Health Minister Vishwajit

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said the possibility of imposing certain restrictions in the state to curb the rising COVID-19 cases would be discussed with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. On Monday, Sawant said there was no immediate plan to impose a lockdown or curfew in Goa, but his government was monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the state and neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka. Rane chaired a meeting of health officials on Monday to review the COVID-19 situation in the coastal state and later met the chief minister. During the meeting, concerns were raised over beds in COVID-19 facilities getting occupied fast.
