Energy storage technology provider Fluence and battery gigafactory startup Northvolt will collaborate to develop “next-generation battery technology for grid-scale storage applications,” the companies said today. The co-development of grid storage technology will draw on Fluence’s long-standing experience in the sector. Fluence was officially launched by parent companies AES Corporation and Siemens in 2018 but had already been in the space for close to a decade as AES Energy Storage and additionally drew on Siemens’ Siestorage ESS business expertise. It has since gone on to become one of the leading players in the energy storage system integration and technology space, with more than 5.6GW of storage and

Fluence and Northvolt Collaborate to Co-Develop Smart, Sustainable Battery Technology for Grid-Scale Energy Storage

Fluence and Northvolt Collaborate to Co-Develop Smart, Sustainable Battery Technology for Grid-Scale Energy Storage Fluence and Northvolt are working to develop sustainable, next-generation battery systems which are intended to lower total cost of ownership and improve functionality of technology that is key to reliable, resilient decarbonized electric grids Fluence, a leading global energy storage technology, software and services provider, and Northvolt, the leading European battery developer and manufacturer, today announced an agreement to co-develop next-generation battery technology for grid-scale storage applications. As part of the agreement, Fluence also plans to purchase battery systems from Northvolt. The companies will draw on Fluence s systems-level knowledge, including 13 years of energy storage system operating data, and Northvolt s battery manufacturing expertise and digital competences to develop stationary energy storage products with industry-leading embedd

Lithuania sets up grid-linked energy storage pilot with Siemens in post-Soviet move

6 April 2021 9:00 GMT Updated  6 April 2021 11:38 GMT Siemens, its Fluence storage joint venture with US power group AES, and Lithuania’s transmission system operator Litgrid plan to build a first project in the Baltics that links battery energy storage directly to the power grid to help the Baltic nation move away from Soviet-era energy ties towards an integration with EU countries. A 1MW pilot plant near the capital Vilnius will serve as proof-of-concept for much larger planned projects in the former Soviet republic as Lithuania is quickly expanding renewable energies to become independent of Russian fossil gas and integrate with the Continental European Synchronous Area in 2025.

Fluence, Siemens deliver Baltic battery pilot

Fluence and Siemens are involved in a pilot project to deliver the first energy storage system connected to the transmission system in the Baltics. The pilot with Litgrid, Lithuania’s transmission system operator (TSO), will deploy a 1MW battery at a location near Vilnius designed to serve as a “proof-of-concept” for much larger planned projects in Lithuania. Energy storage deployments will help the country “pursue a synchronous interconnection with the Continental Europe electric grid and a transition to clean energy”. Increasing amounts of renewable energy require additional power flow capacity on key transmission lines at certain points on the grid.
