Grand Valley State University forms national alliance to solve equity challenges in higher education

ALLENDALE, MI – Grand Valley State University has partnered with five other universities across the country to engage students in developing innovative solutions for challenges in higher education like low completion rates, lack of access and racial gaps.
The REP4 alliance – which stands for Rapid Education Prototyping for Change, Learners, Community, Equity – allows students to design and build prototypes for solutions to problems they see in higher education, which the six colleges will implement nationwide, GVSU President Philomena V. Mantella announced this week.

The formula would cut more than $39 million out of state funding for University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
The University of Michigan and Wayne State University would see deep cuts in state aid under a House Republican-authored plan that seeks to tilt taxpayer support of public universities in favor of schools with more in-state undergraduate students.
The fiscal year 2022 spending plan passed by the GOP-run House Appropriations Committee would cut UM-Ann Arbor s aid by $39.5 million a 12.2 percent cut for one of the state s flagship research universities and slash Wayne State s taxpayer support by $8.2 million, or 4 percent.
EUP students receive Principals Award
The winners of the 2021 Eastern Upper Peninsula Principals’ Awards have been announced.
In order to be eligible for this award, students need to have a 3.3 grade point average or higher, a 24 on the ACT or a 1180 on the SAT and be a graduate of an Eastern Upper Peninsula high school. These students are recognized at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
In previous years, students needed to achieve an SAT score of 1200 in addition to the other requirements in order to receive this award.
Local students include those from Brimley, Cedarville, Ojibwe Charter School, Rudyard, Pickford, St. Ignace, Engadine, Newberry, Whitefish, Mackinac Island and the Sault.

The Grand Valley State University professor is part of roughly 3% of the adult U.S. population that is immunocompromised. My kids can t go anywhere, my husband can t, so we re all kind of stuck in the house, Zickus told FOX 17 News. I have a really rare condition, there s less than probably 300 to 500 of us worldwide. It s called necrotizing autoimmune myopathy and it s an autoimmune condition.
