GVSU hosts first on campus COVID-19 vaccine clinic

The clinic had 1,700 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine available to students and staff. Author: Emma Nicolas Updated: 7:27 PM EDT April 16, 2021 Due to a pause on the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, Grand Valley State University s vaccination clinic carried on with the use of Pfizer doses on Friday.  The single dose J&J shot had been ideal for college and university campuses where students will soon head home for summer. Sixteen-thousand doses had been shipped to several dozen campuses in Michigan this week, only for federal officials to call for a pause on the vaccine s use Tuesday.  Instead, Metro Health was able to supply GVSU with 1,700 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses three weeks apart.

The Lakers scored the first three goals of the game to pull ahead in the early going. Clara Johnson put a stop to the run with her first goal as a Wildcat with an assist from Madeline Bittell at 24:31. NMU pulled within one when Emily Renfrew was able to find the back of the net 23 seconds later. GVSU put two more goals on the board after the Wildcat run. Jessica Daniels got her first goal of the game, assisted by Bittell, to bring NMU back within two.

Flags ordered to half-staff Friday to honor life of State Senator from West Michigan

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Governor Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff today to honor the life and service of a former State Senator from West Michigan. Mark Jansen passed away Tuesday. March 23rd at the age of 61 and the flag honors today will coincide with his funeral services. “Our state mourns loss of former state Senator Mark Jansen,” Governor Whitmer said. “He was someone who was deeply respected across the aisle. He will be remembered for his many years of dedicated service to the people of Michigan in the legislature and in the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. My deepest condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.”
