MUSKEGON, MI – It’s likely going to be many months before employment levels in Muskegon County rebound from the sharp decline experienced during the pandemic.
That was the message Friday from economist Paul Isely during the annual Muskegon County Economic Forecast hosted by the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce. His talk examined the impact of COVID-19 and the economic recovery in the area.

HOLLAND, MI Health officials in Michigan’s fastest growing county say the current amount of vaccine doses it receives isn’t cutting it.
The health department in Ottawa County, home to nearly 300,000 residents, has administered 6,683 vaccine doses, according to local health leaders. When you take into account healthcare providers and the health department, 23,100 doses have been distributed to Ottawa County, according to state data.
Grand Valley State student’s death ruled accidental

ALLENDALE, MI – A Grand Valley State University student who was found dead on campus in December died of hypothermia.
An Ottawa County medical examiner determined that Taylor DeRosa, 18, died of hypothermia with alcohol a contributing factor, a GVSU spokeswoman said Thursday, Jan. 28.
The death has been ruled accidental.
In a message to students, GVSU President Philomena Mantella wrote: “Taylor’s death is a terrible tragedy for her family and all those close to her. We know her fellow students, as well as our faculty staff, have been affected. We are a caring community and our hearts go out to all who knew and loved Taylor.”

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. â Grand Valley State University issued a statement Thursday saying the death of student Taylor DeRosa last year was accidental.
According to the certificate of death for DeRosa, the 18-year-old died from hypothermia and exposure to the cold.
The Medical Examiner s Office also noted on the certificate that DeRosa had a high amount of alcohol in her system when she died.
Grand Valley Police Chief Brandon DeHaan reinforced his earlier statement that there was never â and is not now â any safety risk to the campus associated with DeRosaâs death.
