According to a official press release, in the past police officers who were responding to a mental health crisis call would be accompanied by EMS workers. The person involved would be asked some questions, and after an evaluation would be taken to a hospital for treatment. With this new partnership between police and GHS, the person(s) in crisis will now have the opportunity to speak with a trained professional virtually if he or she chooses to. How great is this?
Mental health in this country has certainly been a hot topic lately, and this is definitely a step in the right direction when it comes to diffusing highly intense situations. Here is to hoping we see more action like this being taken by additional police departments. You can read the official partnership press release below. Thank you Grand Blanc Township Police and Genesee Health Systems.
